Whidbey Island

I’m hanging out on a rocky beach in Whidbey Island, Washington along Puget Sound. Pelagic Cormorants, Pigeon Guillemots, and Gulls make up the soundscape. The ferry comes in slowly from the Olympic Peninsula at Port Townsend causing the light water laps to gradually build up a bit.

The Cormorants make quick flights into the water to grab some kind of water vegetation and then make their way back over to the old pilings to build their nests. I can’t quite tell but I’m guessing from the sounds there’s some young ones up there. I always enjoy the mix of dilapidated structures with beautiful backdrops and it’s nice to know these birds do too.
